NCCRC participates in DOJ/White House meeting on debtor's prison

The NCCRC has increased its support for litigation against cities jailing indigent people without an “ability to pay” hearing and without providing counsel in these civil or quasi-civil proceedings. As a result of our involvement, NCCRC Coordinator John Pollock was invited to participate in a 2-day meeting in D.C. on Dec 2-3, one day of which was run by the Department of Justice and the other by the White House. The meeting was called “A Cycle of Incarceration: Prison, Debt and Bail Practices.”
