Nebraska bill would create right to counsel for all tenants

A 2021 Nebraska bill, LB 419, would require courts to appoint counsel for all tenants in eviction cases.  The bill also creates a new $50 eviction fee to generate funding for the right.  A study of evictions in Lancaster County provides support for the bill's objectives.

Nebraska joins South Carolina, Maryland, and Washington State with such legislation in 2021.
